Born in Germany, Joseph created the workout during his time in an internment camp during the first world war with the goal of increasing core strength, along with back and hip mobility. This process is now known today as Pilates mat work.
Originally centered around core strength, Pilates mat work was used to assist Joseph’s patients who suffered from injuries and diseases during the war. With time, Joseph modified his original exercises to be more dynamic and include more complex movements. That’s when the first reformer machine was born!

Also, it can help relieve tension, back pain, and fatigue, and reduce the risk of pre-term labor.
Pilates helps build the strength and stamina necessary for carrying a baby for nine months. Whilst our Prenatal reformer Pilates focuses on the needs of the carrying mother, our general reformer Pilates classes are not suitable for pregnancy.
